Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2022

One of the biggest tennis events held in Dubai is back for its 2022 edition. From February 14th to the 26th, the Dubai Duty-Free Stadium will welcome the most talented tennis players in the world, along with many rising stars.

The Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championship is considered one of the best tennis events held during the year, as it has been voted as the best ATP 500 event of the year 11 times, an award that’s chosen by the players.

A special year

Organized by the Dubai Duty Free, and under the patronage of H.H Sheik Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, this event’s main goal has been the promotion of the Emirate as a top sporting destination.

The efforts of the Dubai Duty Free and the Dubai government have made the championship  become part of the ATP 500 and WTA 500 (Women’s tournament), making these events part of the fourth most important tournaments in the tennis world.

This year, the celebration is way more special, as it is the 30th anniversary of the men’s tournament. For this special year, the Dubai Duty Free announced none other than Novak Djokovic as the head of this anniversary celebration.

Djokovic will be competing for the 12th time, trying to win his 6th trophy in this championship.

Men's tournament

The men’s tournament line-up has been announced; with eight players from the top 20 of the world ranking competing for the title, as well as many young stars that will surely bring many surprises to the field.

The 2021 Dubai champion, Alan Karatsev, Andrey Rublev, Denis Shapovalov, Roberto Bautista Agut, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Jannik Sinner and Gael Monfils are some of the contendants for this year’s title.

The men’s tournament and 30th anniversary celebration will take place from February 21st to the 26th, right after the women’s event.

Women's tournament

Speaking of the ladies, this year will offer one of the most competitive line-up we have seen in the history of the tournament, as it has been announced that 9 players from the world’s top 10 and 17 from the top 20 will be competing for the title, opening up the bets on who will be the player that takes the trophy home.

Starting with Dubai’s current champion; the Spanish Garbiñe Muguruza will come back to the tournament seeking a new victory. Simona Halep, Elina Svitolina, Petra Kvitova and Belinda Bencic, all of them being previous champions of the Dubai Tournament will also be present trying to win the title once again.

However, the public’s eyes will certainly be on Ons Jabeur, who is currently holding the 7th place in the top ranking and is the highest ranked Arab player in WTA and ATP tour history.

The women’s event will come first, starting on February 14th and finishing on the 19th. This year also marks the 22nd anniversary of the ladies tournament.

Tickets

The ticket sale started on January 27th via online, and the Dubai Duty Free Stadium box office started their sale on February 8th, just six days before the grand opening day.
