UAE Tour 2022

The UAE Tour is a road cycling stage race held annually since 2019 in the United Arab Emirates. It was first held in 2019 as part of the UCI World Tour. This is the only WorldTour race in the Middle East, organized by Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and was created as a result of the merging of the Abu Dhabi Tour and the Dubai Tour.

The stages of UAE Tour 2022

Starting and finishing in Abu Dhabi the race is a men’s competition consisting of seven stages. It contains mainly flat stages, with some hillier parts. The stages are named after the sponsors of the race.

With Abu Dhabi recently becoming a UCI Bike City, and the launch of the Bike Abu Dhabi platform the UAE has become a leading global cycling hub. Cycling fans now eagerly await the fourth edition of the 4th edition of UAE road racing season which begins in February and will bring the world’s best riders to UAE. The seven-day race will kick off on Sunday, February 20 with Al Ain Water Stage, finishing on Saturday 26 February.

The winners for the previous three races were Tour de France for two-times and the UAE Team Emirates rider Tadej Pogačar who took overall victory at last year’s tour.

The route for the 2021 UAE Tour which covers a total of 1081 km starts with the AL Ain Water Stage from the village of Madinat Zayed.

Below you can find a short description of the stages:

Stage 1 – Al Ain Water Stage – Madinat Zayed – Madinat Zayed (185km)

A stage taking place entirely in the desert. 

Stage 2 – International Holding Company Stage – Hudayriyat Island – Abu Dhabi Breakwater (173km)

A stage around the city of Abu Dhabi. 

Stage 3 – G42 Stage presented by Tissot – Ajman ITT (9km)

An individual time trial entirely in Ajman.

Stage 4 – Burjeel Medical City Stage – Fujairah Fort – Jebel Jais (181km)

The first of two most likely decisive mountain stages in the UAE Tour.

Stage 5 – Marjan Stage – Ras al Khaimah Corniche – Al Marjan Island (182km)

The entire route takes place on wide, well-paved and essentially straight roads through the desert.

Stage 6 – Expo 2020 Dubai Stage – Expo 2020 Dubai – Expo 2020 Dubai (180km)

The city stage of Dubai.

Stage 7 – Mubadala Stage – Al Ain – Jebel Hafeet (148km)

A classic mountain stage of the UAE Tour.

UAE Tour visits Expo 2020

During the race, the riders cross a diverse mix of UAE landscapes – mountains, coastal and desert roads, as well as city streets, across its seven stages. this year’s race will feature four sprinters’ stages, two mountain stages best suited to the peloton’s climbers, and a 9km long, high-speed individual time trial. There is a hillier part concentrated between stages 4 and 7 of around 3500 m. This year’s tour also coincides with a significant event for the Emirates – Expo 2020 Dubai – a world expo running from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. The Expo will host the start of Stage 6 of the race. The finish line of the race is Jabel Hafeet.

All in all, 6 cities in UAE will host the 19 participating teams of race during different stages: Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras al Khaimah, and Dubai.

Riders will compete for the race’s Red, Green, White and Black jerseys – sponsored by International Holding Company, Italian Trade Agency (ICE), Nakheel, and Abu Dhabi Aviation respectively. 

The official jersey will be provided by Alé with Swiss watchmaker Tissot as the Official Timekeeper.
