Ambition around cycling in UAE
The United Arab Emirates never ceases to conquer world records and set itself as a top-leading nation in the world in almost anything you can imagine.
That’s why, in classic UAE fashion, the UAE’s 50th jubilee was celebrated as close to the stars as humanly possible, highlighting the nation’s values and spirit.
In recent years, fitness, exercise, and healthy lifestyle choices have been promoted by the government and corporations in an attempt to make the population’s quality of life better. All kinds of sports events, marathons, races, and tournaments have become more and more popular in the biggest cities.
Recently, the neighboring city of Dubai became Asia’s most bike-friendly city by obtaining the recognition of being a “bike city” by the Union Cycliste Internationale standards.
Spinning on St. Regis Hotel helipad
Abu Dhabi is definitely aiming for the same recognition, as the golden jubilee celebrations started with a unique spinning rotating class in the helipad of the St. Regis Hotel.
The event took place on December 9th, after the golden jubilee celebrations kicked off on December 12th.
As a collaboration with cycling boutique MOTION; the spinning ride took place 255 meters above the ground, making this the highest ever spinning ride in the world.
Behind the event was the desire of projecting the UAE’s efforts and mentality over the last few decades. “Nothing is impossible” and “Make it a reality” were the two inspirational slogans that shined bright with the country’s flag colors while bikers were cycling under the stars.
Who is MOTION
The company behind this event, MOTION, has made itself a name in the fitness realm all across Abu Dhabi. The company that started as a small business run by an immigrant father is now one of the biggest and most exclusive spinning equipment and training providers in the country.
MOTION cycling offers unique spinning sessions in their indoor cycling studio. The 45-minute training is all practiced in a dark candlelit room, which makes it a one-of-a-kind sensorial experience while burning up to 1,000 calories per session.
Each class is different, with unique music, movements, routines, and vibes meant to surprise their customers every single day. There’s no wonder why they were behind this also unique cycling event.
The “Reach for the stars” spinning class was held as a celebratory event, however, this is not the only night-time special event the company offers.
In the Abu Dhabi studio, they have a special ladies-only training consisting of 30 minutes of cycling and 60 of Yin Yoga and sound healing, held during full moon nights. These special classes focus on self-improvement, repairing and connecting the mind, body and soul. The closest event is on February 16th.
