The United Arab Emirates is a hub for various world-class sporting events, attracting spectators and athletes from around the globe. From exhilarating motorsports and thrilling cricket matches to exciting horse racing and challenging golf tournaments, the UAE offers a diverse range of sports events throughout the year.

With state-of-the-art sports facilities and a vibrant sports culture, the UAE is fast becoming a premier destination for sports enthusiasts. Whether you’re a local or a visiting sports fan, you’re sure to find a sporting event that excites and enthralls you in the UAE.

For your convenience and information, below is a brief introduction to the upcoming events in the first quarter in UAE.

January

Dubai Creek Striders Half Marathon

The Dubai Creek Striders Half Marathon, marking its 20th anniversary, offers a unique perspective of the city, referred to as “the world’s most beautiful half marathon” by its creators. 

Runners will embark on a 21.1 km journey along the Creek waterfront, traversing the Garhoud and Maktoum bridges and passing the dhow wharfage on the Deira side before reaching the finish line at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club. This year, a new 10 km route has also been added. Entry fees for the half marathon are Dhs 309, while the 10 km route costs Dhs 184.

February

M1 Run 2023

Challenging the conventional road races in the UAE, the M1 Run presents a singular competition – a steep challenge hosted at the Media One Hotel. Participants must sprint from the ground-level valet parking to the top of the hotel’s 35-floor stairway, scaling the steep ramps. 

It’s a strenuous test of endurance that will leave your legs shaking but with numerous rewards to be won. The current record is a little over 6 minutes. Think you have what it takes to beat it? Registration opens at 8 am with an entry fee of Dhs131.

Dubai Marathon 2023

Get ready to lace up your running shoes as the Dubai Marathon returns on February 12 with 30,000 participants. Dubbed one of the UAE’s most significant races on the sports calendar, the 42km marathon covers the entire length of Beach Road and back, starting and finishing at Umm Sequim Road near Madinat Jumeirah. 

With a flat route, the marathon is considered one of the fastest in the world, attracting elite runners aiming to break records. For those seeking a shorter distance, the 10km and 4km races start at 7 am and 10 am, respectively. Register for the marathon for Dhs550, the 10km for Dhs 312, and the 4km for Dhs 184.

RAK Half Marathon 2023

With its 16th edition, the RAK Half Marathon is a staple event in the UAE sporting calendar, attracting many runners. The race takes place on Marjan Island and covers a scenic route along Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Road and Al-Amwaj avenue, offering breathtaking views of the major hotels. 

Participants can choose to run the 21.1km solo or with a partner in a relay or opt for the shorter 10km or 5km routes. Entry fees start at Dhs295, with options to add extras such as the pre-race pasta party and post-race brunch. VIP hotel packages are also available for those looking for a more premium experience.

Abu Dhabi ─ TriYas

The Abu Dhabi Triathlon is a unique region event known for its fun and engaging format. Participants will swim in Yas Marina, cycle on Yas Marina Circuit, and run around the marina, with two different categories to choose from: Sprint (750m swim, 22km cycle, 5.5km run) and Olympic (1,500m swim, 38km ride, 10km run).

March

Gladiators OCR

The latest addition to the Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) scene, Gladiators OCR, challenges participants to test their strength, endurance, and agility at the gnarly XQuarry Adventure Park in Sharjah

This event boasts 32 grueling challenges, some of which were designed to challenge the toughest 4WD vehicles that frequent the park. As they navigate the 6km course over rocky terrain and challenging climbs, contestants will be tested in this test of physical and mental toughness. The entry fee is Dhs195.

La Mer Open Water Swim

Jumeirah invites you to splash at the La Mer Open Water Swim. Choose from various distances, including 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1,600m swims, or push yourself to the limit by participating in multiple races. 

With an entry fee of Dhs175 for adults and Dhs125 for those under 18s, you’ll receive a swim cap, medal, and refreshments. For the ultimate challenge, sign up for the 3.2km long-distance swim on the same day.

April

Urban-Ultra Wadi Racer

Get out of the city and into the wilderness with the Urban-Ultra Wadi Racer in Ras Al Khaimah. Start your trail running adventure before the sun rises and navigate through single-track trails and rocky wadi beds with your headlamp leading the way. The course is illuminated with light reflective markers, and you can choose from three lengths: 10km, 20km, or 30km. The races begin at 5 am, and entry costs Dhs310.
